Susan Welch, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Pennsylvania State University, is the longest active serving dean on the flagship university campus and the longest sitting woman dean in the history of Penn State.
To honor her longstanding service to the university, alumnus Gene Chaiken has led an effort which has raised $3 million that will be earmarked for programs that Dean Welch holds dear. According to Chaiken, no other college at Penn State has raised more than $100,000 to honor a dean.
The $3 million raised is in addition to a $5 million gift to endow the Susan Welch Chair in the College of Liberal Arts.
