Five Women Scholars Who Are Taking on New Academic Duties

Jackie Krasas, an associate professor of sociology at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has been given the added duties of deputy provost for faculty affairs. She has been serving as associate dean of interdisciplinary programs and international initiatives. She joined the faculty at the university in 2005 as the director of the women’s studies program.

Dr. Krasas received a bachelor’s degree in social relations from Lehigh University. She earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology with a specialty in gender studies from the University of Southern California.

Doris Sung, associate professor of architecture at the University of Southern California, was appointed director of undergraduate programs in the university’s School of Architecture. She joined the faculty at the university in 2006. Earlier, she taught at the University of Colorado and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sung is a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey. She earned a master of architecture degree at Columbia University in New York City.

Clancy Wilmott is a new assistant professor of geography at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on critical cartography, media geographies. and critical GIS and data studies.

Dr. Wilmott holds bachelor’s degrees in communications, international studies, and cultural studies from the University of Sydney in Australia. She earned a Ph.D. in human geography from the University of Manchester in England.

Nisha Botchwey, an associate professor of city and regional planning in the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology, was appointed associate dean of academic programs in professional education. Dr. Botchwey joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 2012 after teaching at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Botchey is a graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in environmental science and public policy. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in urban planning from the University of Pennsylvania and a master of public health degree from the University of Virginia.

Cheryl DeVuyst has been named the new head of the department of agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University. She is a professor in the department.

DeVuyst began her career at Oklahoma State as an assistant dean and subsequently accepted a position in the office of the provost.
