Lillian Pierce Honored for Her Research in Harmonic Analysis and Analytic Number Theory

Lillian B. Pierce, an assistant professor of mathematics at Duke University, was named as the recipient of the 2018 Sadosky Research Prize in Analysis from the Association for Women in Mathematics. She is being honored for her contributions to harmonic analysis and analytic number theory.

The award, established in 2012 in honor of Cora Sadosky, a mathematician who served as president of the Association for Women in Mathematics, honors exceptional analysis by women early in their careers. In a statement, the association wrote that Dr. Pierce’s “research spans and connects a broad spectrum of problems ranging from character sums in number theory to singular integral operators in Euclidean spaces. She has made far-reaching contributions to the study of discrete analogs of harmonic-analytic integral operators, taking inspiration in classical Fourier analysis, but drawing also on methods from analytic number theory such as the circle method and Diophantine approximation.”

Dr. Pierce joined the faculty at Duke University in 2014. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey, where she majored in mathematics. She earned a master’s degree in mathematics research at the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in mathematics at Princeton University.
