Martha E. Pollack to Be the 14th President of Cornell University

The board of trustees of Cornell University has named Martha E. Pollack as the 14th president of the Ivy League institution. She will assume office on April 17, 2017. Dr. Pollack will also hold a tenured faculty position in the departments of computer science and information science.

In accepting the post, Dr. Pollack stated that “I am humbled and honored to have been elected to lead this great university. As a private university with a public mission, Cornell is the embodiment of my own deeply held belief in the ability of knowledge to improve the human condition. I can’t wait to get started, and I look forward to meeting and working with Cornell’s outstanding faculty, students, staff and alumni in Ithaca, New York City and around the globe.”

Dr. Pollack has served as provost at the University of Michigan since 2013. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2016 and has held several posts including dean of the School of Information and vice provost for academic and budgetary affairs. Earlier in her career, Dr. Pollack taught at the University of Pittsburgh.

Professor Pollack is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in linguistics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in computer and information science from the University of Pennsylvania.
