In Memoriam: Toni Clark, 1942-2016

Toni Clark, professor emerita of English at Pomona College in Claremont, California, died late last month at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. She was 74 years old and had suffered from multiple myeloma.
Dr. Clark was a graduate of Ventura High School and the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Professor Clark was an expert in modern British and American literature.
Professor Clark taught for 10 years at Augsburg College in Minnesota before joining the faculty at Pomona College in 1983. At Pomona, she served as dean of women, chair of the department of English, and associate dean of students. While she entered phased retirement at Pomona in 2007, she continued to teach classes as a member of the college’s emeriti committee. In retirement, she also gave tours at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.
