The U.S. Medical Schools That Graduate the Highest Number of Women

New data from the Association of American Medical Colleges identifies the U.S. medical schools who graduated the most women during the 2014-15 academic year.

The University of Illinois issued medial degrees to 156 women, the most of any medical school in the United States. Women outnumbered men in the graduating class 156 to 153.  Ranking second was Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia with 138 women graduates. Indiana University ranked third with 135 women graduates.

Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit had the fourth highest total of women graduates with 129. Drexel University in Philadelphia was fifth with 128 women graduates. Other medical schools with more than 100 women graduates in the 2014-15 academic year were the University of Miami, the University of Minnesota, New York Medical College, Ohio State University, the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

The vast majority of U.S. medical schools had more men graduates than women graduates. But at many high-ranking medical schools, women graduates outnumbered men. They include Stanford University, the University of California, San Francisco, Georgetown University, the University of Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, Duke University, Brown University, Columbia University, Case Western Reserve University, and Vanderbilt University.
