Nancy Weiss Malkiel was named professor emerita of history at Princeton University in New Jersey. She has been a member of the faculty at Princeton since 1969. Professor Malkiel is the author of several books including Farewell to the Party of Lincoln: Black Politics in the Age of FDR (Princeton University Press, 1983).
Professor Malkiel is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned a Ph.D. at Harvard University.
Judy Piercy, the university ombudsperson at Ohio University for the past three years, is retiring. She has been a member of the staff at Ohio University for the past three decades.
Earlier is her career at Ohio University, Piercy served as assistant vice president for student affairs, director of residence life, and director of university judiciaries.
Deb Luckadoo, director of staff diversity at North Carolina State University, is retiring after a 40-year career in higher education. Earlier, she served as director of campus activities. In 2008, she was one of the staff members responsible for the creation of the GLBT Center on campus.
Joining her in retirement is husband Tim Luckadoo, who has been serving as vice provost for campus life at the university.
Eileen Ely, president of Green River College in Auburn, Washington, has resigned her position effective immediately. She has been president of the college since 2010. She was the subject of a no-confidence resolution passed by the faculty in 2013. Earlier this year, instructors at the college filed charges of unfair labor practices against the college’s administration.
Before coming to Green River College, Dr. Ely was president of Western Nebraska Community College. Dr. Ely is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. She holds a master’s degree from Iowa State University and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Texas.
Melinda Nish has stepped down as president of Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California. She has been president of the college since 2012. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Nish was vice president of instruction at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California.
Dr. Nish holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. She earned an educational doctorate at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara.
Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
The new presidents are Laurie A. Boeding at the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Melissa Frank-Alston at Northeastern Technical College. Both women are expected to begin their presidencies on July 1.
Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
