In Memoriam: Susan Archer Mann, 1950-2016

Susan Archer Mann, a professor of sociology at the University of New Orleans, died on April 8 in Mandeville, Louisiana. She was 65 years old and had suffered from breast cancer.
Dr. Mann was a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Salisbury, Maryland. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, where she majored in sociology. Dr. Mann held a master’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Mann taught at the University of New Orleans for more than 30 years. There, she was one of the founders of the women’s studies program and the University of New Orleans Women’s Center. Professor Mann was the author or co-author of several books including Doing Feminist Theory: From Modernity to Postmodernity (Oxford University Press, 2012) and Reading Feminist Theory: From Modernity to Postmodernity (Oxford University Press, 2015).
