Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, Adds Seven Women to Its Faculty

Brandeis University, the highly rated research university in Waltham, Massachusetts, has hired 14 new tenure or tenure-track faculty who are either teaching on campus this fall or will begin their duties in 2016. Seven of the new hires are women.

Clementine Faure-Bellaiche is a new assistant professor of French and Francophone studies. She specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century French literature. Dr. Faure-Bellaiche received a Ph.D. in French at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, earlier this year.

Alice Hsiaw is a new assistant professor of economics in the International Business School at Brandeis. Since 2011, she was an assistant professor of economics at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Hsiaw earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University in New Jersey. Her research is focused on applied microeconomic theory and behavioral economics.

Tijana Ivanovic was appointed an assistant professor of biochemistry. She has conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and the University of Colorado. She received the prestigious L’Oreal Fellowship for Women in Science. Dr. Ivanovic will begin teaching at Brandeis during the spring 2016 semester. She is a graduate of  the University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in microbiology and molecular genetics and holds a Ph.D. in virology from Harvard Medical School.

Laura Jockusch is the Albert Abramson Assistant Professor of Holocaust Studies at Brandeis. She is the author of Collect and Record! Jewish Holocaust Documentation in Early Postwar Europe (Oxford University Press, 2012). She is on a leave of absence until the fall of 2016 working on a second book project at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Jockusch earned a Ph.D. at New York University.

Hannah Weiss Muller was appointed an assistant professor of history. She is an expert on the history of the British and French empires. She is the author of Subjects and Sovereign: Bonds of Belonging in the British Empire, forthcoming from Oxford University Press. Since 2014, Dr. Muller has been an assistant professor at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She will begin teaching at Brandeis in January. Dr. Muller is a graduate of Harvard University. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.

Maria-Eirini Pandelia is a new assistant professor of biochemistry. She will begin teaching at Brandeis during the 2016 spring semester. For the past three years, Dr. Pandelia has been conducting postdoctoral research at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Pandelia is a graduate of the University of Patras in Greece. She earned a master’s degree at the National Technical University of Athens and a Ph.D. at the Technical University of Berlin in Germany.

Carina E. Ray is a new associate professor of African and Afro-American studies. Since 2007, she has served on the faculty of Fordham University in New York. She is on a leave of absence until the fall of 2016 and is serving as a fellow at the Society for the Humanities. Dr. Ray is the author of Crossing the Color Line: Race, Sex, and the Contested Politics of Colonialism in Ghana (Ohio University Press, 2015). Dr. Ray is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Cornell University.
