Amale Andraos to Lead Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture

Columbia University has announced that Amale Andraos will be the next dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Her appointment is effective on September 1. Since 2011, she has been serving as an associate professor at the school. She previously taught at Princeton, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Ohio State, the American University of Beirut, among others.

Columbia University President Lee Bollinger stated the Professor Andraos is “an inspiring teacher, a respected colleague, and a pioneering practitioner whose innovative commissions in cities around the world have earned widespread admiration. Amale is a new leader among a rising generation of creative architects and designers of our physical environment. She is just the kind of person who can further expand the role of the School as a center of interdisciplinary thinking across Columbia about how to develop a more just and sustainable society.”

A native of Lebanon, Professor Andraos holds degrees from the McGill University School of Architecture in Montreal and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.
