Seventeen Women in New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Keri Swaby was promoted to coordinator of undergraduate research at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She was the coordinator of the Scieneeering program at the university.

Swaby is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She holds a master’s degree in earth and atmospheric science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Swaby is currently in the doctoral program in integrative STEM education at Virginia Tech.

Rosetta Clay was appointed associate vice chancellor for alumni affairs at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She will also serve as executive director of the university’s alumni association. Clay was the director of alumni programs for the business school at the University of Maryland.

Clay is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. She earned a master’s degree in marketing management from Johns Hopkins University.

Rhoberta Haley was named president of the St. Louis campus of the Chamberlain College of Nursing. Dr. Haley was a professor and director of nursing at the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Dr. Haley holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University and a master’s degree from the University of California. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of San Diego.

Karen A. Dowling has been promoted to director of academic programs in the School of Educational Leadership at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. She was the director of adult teacher licensure programs in the School of Educational Leadership.

Dr. Dowling holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Michelle Piekutowski is the new chief human resources officer at Clemson University in South Carolina. She has served in the post on an interim basis for the past three years. She has been employed with the Office of Human Resources since 2003.

Piekutowski holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and a master’s degree in human resource development from Clemson University.

Jennifer Lodge was appointed vice chancellor for research at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Lodge is a professor of molecular microbiology at the university’s medical school and has been serving as associate dean for research. She will continue in these roles in addition to her new position.

Professor Lodge is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Washington University.

Heather Lindkvist was appointed Title IX coordinator and Clery Act compliance officer at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Since 2011, she has been the Title IX officer and lecturer in anthropology at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.

Lindkvist is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree in comparative human development from the University of Chicago.

Anne Sauer was appointed to the Stephen E. and Evalyn Milman Directorship of Rare and Manuscript Collections at the Cornell University Library. Since 2004, she has been the director of digital collections and archives at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

Sauer holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Tufts University and a master of library and information science degree from Simmons College in Boston.

Kelley Coffeen is the new assistant dean for advancement in the College of Education at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

Coffeen is a graduate of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She holds a master’s degree in consumer and environmental sciences from New Mexico State University and is currently working for a doctorate in educational leadership at the university.

Michele Kiely was appointed associate dean for research at the School of Public Health of the City University of New York.  She was in charge of the Initiative to Reduce Infant Mortality in Minority Populations at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Dr. Kiely holds bachelor’s degrees from San Diego State University and Boston University. She earned a master of public health degree and a doctorate in public health in epidemiology from Columbia University.

Gabriela C. Weaver was named associate provost for faculty development and director of the Center for Teaching and Faculty Development at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dr. Weaver has been serving as director of the Discovery Learning Research Center and a professor of chemistry and science education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Dr. Weaver is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Katrina Oliver was appointed assistant director of the Office of Equity and Diversity at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was an investigator for the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education.

Oliver is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Georgia School of Law. She also holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Lillian C. Wichinsky was named interim executive director of the new Community Connections Center at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. She has served on the faculty at the university as an associate professor in the School of Social Work for the past six years.

Dr. Wichinsky is a graduate of the University of Florida. She holds a master of social work degree from California State University, Sacramento and a Ph.D. from Florida International University in Miami.

Lauren Richards is the new manager of programs for the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association. She is a former leadership development consultant for the national Kappa Delta Sorority.

Richards is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where she majored in elementary education. She holds a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Bonnie Richley was appointed assistant vice president for human resources at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She also serves as an assistant professor of organizational behavior at the university’s Weatherhead School of Management. Dr. Richley is co-author of the book Managing by Values: A Corporate Guide to Living, Being Alive, and Making a Living in the 21st Century (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006).

Dr. Rickley is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Julia Czerniak was named associate dean in the School of Architecture at Syracuse University in New York. Czerniak teaches architectural design studios as well as seminars on landscape theory and criticism at the university. Her latest book is Formerly Urban: Projecting Rust Belt Futures (Princeton Architectural Press, 2013).

Professor Czerniak holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in architecture from Princeton University.

Vicki McNeil is the new vice president in the division of student management at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She was the associate vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Dr. McNeil holds a bachelor’s degree in music education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and a doctorate in student personnel administration, all from Oklahoma State University.
