Two Women Among the Five Candidates for Dean of the University College at Ohio University

OhioULogoOhio University in Athens has identified five candidates for the position of dean of the University College and vice provost for undergraduate education. All five candidates are currently members of the Ohio University faculty. Over the next two weeks, they will participate in interviews and open forums with faculty, students, and other members of the university community. Two of the five finalists are women.

Linda J. Rice is an associate professor of English. She is the author of What Was It Like? Teaching History and Culture Through Young Adult Literature (Teachers College Press, 2006). Dr. Rice is a graduate of Grove City College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, and earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Kent State University in Ohio.

sayrsElizabeth P. Sayrs is an associate professor of music theory. Prior to her appointment to the Ohio University faculty, Dr. Sayrs served on the faculty at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Valparaiso University, Ohio State University, and the University of Saskatchewan. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Dr. Sayrs holds a master’s degree in music theory from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York and a Ph.D. in music theory from Ohio State University.

Update: On June 19, Dr. Sayrs was named dean of the University College.
