New data from UCAS, the admissions service used by British universities, shows that the number of women seeking admission to member institutions is now a third larger than the number of men seeking admission. UCAS reports that 580,000 students applied for admission to British universities this year and 333,700 of them are women, almost 58 percent of the total.
UCAS reports that at 20 British universities there are now twice as many women undergraduate students as men.
Mary Curnock Gook, the CEO of UCAS, stated, “There remains a stubborn gap between male and female applicants which, on current trends, could eclipse the gap between rich and poor within a decade.”
