Four Women Professors Selected for New Academic Responsibilites

Susan Richmond has been promoted to director of the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University. An associate professor of art history and affiliate of the Institute for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, she previously served as the school’s associate director. More recently, she has served as the interim associate dean of the university’s College of the Arts.

Dr. Richmond holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Saba Rasheed Ali has been named a 2025 University of Iowa Distinguished Chair, one of the most prestigious faculty honors at the university. A faculty member since 2003, she currently serves as a professor of counseling psychology and associate dean for research in the College of Education. Her work focuses on career and workforce development, particularly in rural areas.

Dr. Ali holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from West Virginia University, a master’s degree in community counseling from Loyola University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Oregon.

Jinoos Yazdany has been named the inaugural executive director of artificial intelligence monitoring in clinical care in the division of clinical informatics and digital transformation at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. She is the Alice Betts Endowed Professor of Medicine and chief of the division of rheumatology at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Dr. Yazdany received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master of public health degree from Harvard University.

Shivaani Kummar has been selected to serve as interim chief executive officer of the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University. Prior to her interim appointment, she was the center’s co-deputy director. She also serves as the Margaret and Lester DeArmond University Chair of Molecular Oncology and co-director of the Center for Experimental Therapeutics.

Dr. Kummar received her medical degree from Lady Harding Medical College in New Delhi, India.
