Nalanda Roy Honored for Lifetime Achievement in Global Affairs Research

Nalanda Roy, professor of political science and international studies at Georgia Southern University, has received the Noam Chomsky Global Connections Shining Star Research Award from the Society of Transnational Academic Research (STAR Network), a global organization dedicated to advancing research for social impact and higher education. Dr. Roy was honored for her lifetime achievements in global affairs research.

For more than two decades, Dr. Roy has published extensively in the fields of international relations, global affairs, and comparative politics. Her specific expertise centers around South and Southeast Asian maritime security and conflicts. She has authored and edited several books, most recently, Nonviolent Resistances in the Contemporary World: Case Studies From India, Poland, and Turkey (Routledge India, 2021).

At Georgia Southern University, Dr. Roy serves as the coordinator of the Asian studies program and a Certified Diversity Executive and Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellow. She also serves as a visiting scholar at the Center for Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University in New Jersey, an adjunct profesor at the FORE School of Management in New Delhi, and a distinguished visiting professor at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in India.

Dr. Roy received a bachelor’s degree in political science and two master’s degrees in international relations from Jadavpur University in India. She holds a master’s degree in sociology and anthropology from the University of Toledo in Ohio and a Ph.D. in global affairs from Rutgers University.
