American Sociological Society Recognizes Robin Isserles for Distinguished Contributions to Community College Teaching

Robin G. Isserles, professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College within the City University of New York system, has received the 2024 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award from the American Sociological Society.

For the past three decades, Dr. Isserles has served as a professor of social sciences, human services, and criminal justice at BMCC. She has conducted extensive research on higher education, specifically the community college context, scholarship on teaching and learning, and care theory and ethics

Dr. Isserles’ expertise on community colleges led her to authoring The Costs of Completion: Student Success in Community Colleges (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2021). The book discusses the complex understanding of who community college students are, why and how they enroll, and what higher education institutions can do to better support them.

Dr Isserles holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Union College in New York and a Ph.D. in sociology from the City University of New York.
