Amy Goldberg Appointed Chair of the American Board of Surgery

Amy Goldberg, the Marjorie Joy Katz Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, has been selected to serve as chair of the American Board of Surgery, the national certifying body for general surgeons and specialists.

Over 35 years ago, Dr. Goldberg began her career at Temple University as a surgical intern. She was appointed to her current role as dean of the School of Medicine in 2022, making her the first woman to ever hold the position. Throughout her long tenure with Temple, she has held several leadership roles including chief of the trauma and surgical care division, director of the general surgery residency program, and the George S. Peters MD and Louis C. Peters Chair and Professor of Surgery.

In addition to her many administrative and academic appointments, Dr. Goldberg has conducted extensive research on trauma injuries and the impact of gun violence prevention. Some of her clinical interests include trauma, critical care, and breast surgery.

Dr. Goldberg holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a medical doctorate from the School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
