Seven Women Leaders Taking on New Dean Positions

Sandy Chio has been named dean of the Jackson campus of Central Wyoming College. She has over two decades of professional experience, previously serving as chief business officer at Teton Science School in Wyoming and admissions and marketing director at the National Outdoor Leadership School.

Chio holds an MBA from the University of Washington.

Gwendolyn H. Everett has been selected to serve as interim dean of the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University. She currently serves as associate dean for faculty affairs within the college. During her tenure with Howard University, she has served in roles such as director of the Howard University Gallery of Art, chair of the department of art, and co-director of the Chair Leadership Academy.

Dr. Everett is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, where she majored in studio art. She holds a master’s degree in art history from Howard University and a doctorate in education from George Mason University in Virginia.

Stacey Berry has been appointed dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. Over the course of her 14-year tenure with the university, she has held several positions such as professor of English, coordinator of undergraduate research, chair of the institutional review board, and associate dean.

Dr. Berry holds three degrees in English: a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Alma Littles has been promoted from interim dean to permanent dean of the College of Medicine at Florida State University. Prior to her interim appointment, she served as the college’s senior associate dean for medical education and academic affairs for nearly two decades. Earlier in her tenure, she served as chair of the department of family medicine and rural health.

Dr. Littles received her medical degree from the University of Florida.

Valerie B. Morris has been selected to serve as interim dean of the College of Arts at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Most recently, she served as dean of the School of Arts at the College of Charleston in South Carolina for 22 years. Earlier in her career, she served on the faculty at American University in Washington, D.C., where she founded the institution’s master’s degree program in arts management.

Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in speech arts from American University and a master’s degree in speech with a concentration in theatre administration from the University of Michigan.

Lisa Broussard has been promoted from interim dean to permanent dean of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. A faculty member with the university since 1992, she currently holds the title of Acadian Ambulance Endowed Professor in Nursing. She has previously held other leadership positions with the college, including department head and associate dean.

Dr. Broussard is a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master’s degree in nursing and doctor of nursing practice degree from Louisiana State University.

Charmayne Mulligan has been named dean of humanities & fine arts at Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee. For the past 17 years, she has served as a professor and department chair in English at Davenport University in Michigan, where she was recently granted the title of professor emerita.

Dr. Mulligan holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Florida Atlantic University, a master’s degree in English from East Tennessee State University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Western Michigan University.
