Neha Vapiwala Will Head the American Society for Radiation Oncology

Neha Vapiwala, an academic and administrative leader at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, has been selected to serve as president-elect of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. Over the next four years, she will serve one-year terms as the national organization’s president-elect, president, chair of the board of directors, and immediate past chair, respectively.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Vapiwala serves as the Eli Glatstein, MD Endowed Professor in Radiation Oncology, vice chair of education for the department of radiation oncology, and associate dean of admissions for the Perelman School of Medicine. Prior to her current admissions role, she served the medical school as assistant dean for student affairs.

Dr. Vapiwala’s medical career has been dedicated to managing patients with genitourinary cancers. She has conducted extensive research on biological and technological improvements in the delivery of photon- and proton-based radiation. In addition to the American Society for Radiation Oncology, she is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the National Cancer Institute’s Prostate Cancer Task Force. She also serves on the editorial boards of JAMA Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Vapiwala received her bachelor’s degree in biology and Hispanic studies from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
