Wellesley College in Massachusetts Has Announced Promotions and Tenure Awards to Women Scholars

Wellesley College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in suburban Boston, has announced that seven faculty members have been promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Four of these promotions went to women scholars. The appointments will take effect at the beginning of the 2022-23 academic year.

Ama Baafra Abeberese was promoted to associate professor of economics. Her research centers on analyzing the behavior of firms in developing countries. She joined the faculty at the college in 2013. Dr. Abeberese is a graduate of Wellesley College, where she majored in economics and physics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University.

Louise Darling will be an associate professor of biological sciences. Her research examines interactions with and transport and communication across the plasma membrane in cellular systems, including the actions of antimicrobial peptides, ion channels, and transport proteins. Dr. Darling is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She earned a Ph.D. at Rice University in Houston.

Jaclyn Hatala Matthes was named an associate professor of biological sciences. She joined the faculty in 2016 after teaching at Dartmouth College.  Her work is focused on examining the controls on greenhouse gas fluxes from natural, agricultural, and restored ecosystems. Dr. Matthes is a graduate of Harvard University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and public policy. She holds a Ph.D. in environmental science, policy, and management from the University of California, Berkeley.

Eni Mustafaraj, who teaches in the department of computer science, studies web-based sociotechnical systems. Her research explores novel methods of collecting and analyzing the digital traces users generate while interacting with such systems. Dr. Mustafaraj earned a master’s degree at the Polytechnic University of Tirana in Albania. She holds a Ph.D. from Philipps-Universität Marburg in Germany.
