In Memoriam: Joyce Whitten McManus, 1936-2020

Joyce McManus, a long-time faculty member in the School of Nursing at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, passed away Monday, May 11. She was 83-years-old.
A native of Winnsboro, Louisiana, McManus moved to Natchez, Mississippi, as a young girl. She graduated from Natchez High School and earned associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi. She held a master’s degree in nursing and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Mississippi.
Dr. McManus became a long-time employee of Alcorn State University on the Natchez Campus as a member of the baccalaureate nursing program in 1978. After more than twenty-five years in her position at Alcorn State, Dr. McManus retired in 2004.
