Three Women Scholars Awarded Tenure at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

The board of trustees at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has awarded tenure to five faculty members. Three of those who were given tenure are women.
Ivon M. Arroyo is an associate professor of teacher education and curriculum studies in the College of Education. Her expertise is in the design and implementation of novel technologies for learning and assessment for mathematics and computational thinking for students in the K-12 level. Dr. Arroyo is a graduate of the Universidad Blas Pascal in Argentina. She earned a master’s degree and an educational doctorate at the University of Massachusetts.
Sarah Pallas is an associate professor of biology specializing in developmental neuroscience and sensory neurophysiology. Her research is aimed at understanding the mechanisms underlying development, plasticity, and evolution of sensory pathways in the brain using electrophysiological, cellular, and molecular approaches. Dr. Pallas is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. She earned a master’s degree at Iowa State Univerity and a Ph.D. at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
Anna Maria Siega-Riz is an associate professor of nutrition specializing in perinatal epidemiology and maternal and child nutrition. Her research focuses on the first 1,000 days of life by understanding the influence of maternal weight status and dietary patterns/behaviors in the etiology of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Siega-Riz also serves as dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
