Two Women Scholars Appointed to Dean Positions at Southern Universities

Angela Lauer Chong was appointed dean of students at Florida State University, effective December 13. Since 2018, she has been serving as associate vice president for student affairs and will continue to perform those duties. Earlier, she was the chief student affairs officer at The College of New Jersey.

Chong earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southeast Missouri State University and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University. She holds a juris doctorate with a specialization in higher education law and policy from the Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.

Teresa Petty will serve as interim dean of the Cato College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, beginning on January 16. Dr. Petty, who joined the university in 2005, has served as associate dean of the college since 2016. Currently, Dr. Perry is developing a graduate certificate program to prepare teachers for the national board certification process.

Dr. Perry holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in educational computing technologies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
