In Memoriam: Barbara Losty, 1942-2019

Barbara Losty, who had a long career in higher education including service as president of Waycross College in Georgia, died on September 21. She was  77 years old.

Dr. Losty was a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she majored in psychology. She taught in the public schools while studying for a master’s degree in experimental psychology and a Ph.D. in child and developmental psychology at the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Losty began her academic career teaching psychology at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. She then joined the faculty at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she also served as dean of the faculty. Later, Dr. Losty served as campus dean of the Sheboygan County branch of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Dr. Losty was associate dean for human services degrees at Thomas Edison State College in Newark, New Jersey, before becoming president of Waycross College in Georgia. She retired in 2006 and was named president emerita.
