Two Women Scholars Appointed to Chair Academic Departments at Schools of Public Health

Cora E. Lewis was named chair of the department of epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a professor in the Division of Preventive Medicine at the university’s School of Medicine.
Dr. Lewis is a graduate of the University of Miami in Florida. She earned her medical degree at Indiana University and holds a master of public health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Leslie Kantor was named professor and the inaugural chair of the department of urban-global public health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Rutgers University in Newark New Jersey. She was serving as vice president for education at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Earlier, she taught at Columbia University in New York City.
Dr. Kantor is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City, where she majored in English. She holds a master of public health degree and a Ph.D. in social policy and administration from Columbia University.
