Two Women Scholars Changing Universities to Take Dean Positions

Sharon L. Walker was appointed dean of the College of Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She currently serves as interim dean of the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. She will begin her new job at Drexel on September 1.
Dr. Walker’s research is focused on water quality. At the University of California, Riverside, she holds the John Babbage Chair in Environmental Engineering.
Professor Walker is a graduate of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she double majored in environmental studies and environmental engineering. She holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from Yale University.
Beth Angell will be the next dean of the School of Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She will begin her new job on July 16.
Currently, Dr. Angell is an associate professor and chair of the faculty of the School of Social Work at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Earlier, she was on the faculty of the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on mental health and substance abuse treatment.
Dr. Angell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, She earned master’s and doctoral degrees from the School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
