Two Women Scholars Appointed to Endowed Chairs

Patricia A. Patrician was appointed to the Rachel Z. Booth Endowed Chair in Nursing at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Nursing. Dr. Patrician joined the faculty at the University of Alabama Birmingham in 2008 after serving in the U.S. Army for 26 years. She is an expert on patient safety and quality nursing care.

Professor Patrician is a graduate of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and the U.S. Army War College, as well as a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.

Lynne C. Lancaster, professor and chair of the department of classics and world religions at Ohio University has been named the Andrew W. Mellon Professor-in-Charge of the Humanities at the American Academy in Rome, Italy. She will serve a three-year term beginning on August 1. Professor Lancaster’s latest book is Innovative Vaulting in the Architecture of the Roman Empire, 1st to 4th Centuries CE (Cambridge University Press, 2015).

Professor Lancaster is a magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Tech, where she majored in architecture. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from the University of Oxford in England.
