In Memoriam: Frances Johanne Ingemann, 1927-2018

Frances Ingemann, professor emerita of linguistics at the University of Kansas, died on January 28 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Kansas. She was 90 years old.
A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Professor Ingemann held a bachelor’s degree from what is now Montclair State University in New Jersey. She went on to earn a master’s degree from Columbia University and Ph.D. in linguistics from Indiana University.
Dr. Ingemann joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in 1957. She founded the department of linguistics at the university in 1967 and was a pioneer in acoustic speech research.
Professor Ingemann retired from teaching in 2000 after more than 40 years in the classrooms on the campus of the University of Kansas. As professor emerita she remained active on campus.
