In Memoriam: Susan Tammy Jones, 1945-2017

Susan T. Jones, associate vice president for university advancement at the University of Miami, died on Christmas day at her home in Coral Cable, Florida. She was 72 years old.

Jones was a native of Annapolis, Maryland. Her father was a career Navy officer and her family moved frequently. A graduate of the University of Miami, Jones served as a fundraiser for the university for more than 20 years. She presided over two major fundraising campaigns that raised more than $3 billion for the university.

Donna E. Shalala, former president of the University of Miami said Jones  was “a critical leader in the building the U into a first-tier university.”

Current University of Miami president Julio Frenk, added that Jones “loved bringing people together for a common cause and the university is stronger and more responsive for it.”
