Kalindi Vora Appointed Director of the Feminist Research Institute at the University of California, Davis

The Office of Research at the University of California, Davis has announced that Kalindi Vora has been appointed director of the Feminist Research Institute (FRI). The institute is a collaborative, trans-disciplinary hub for exploring how gender, sexuality, race, and other social structures inform the design, execution, and interpretation of research. FRI working groups address pressing social problems through a feminist approach that takes gender dynamics seriously in conceptualization, design, interpretation, analysis, dissemination, and application of research. Among the institute’s current research projects are working groups on soil health, radical mycology, feminism and precision medicine, and speculative ecofeminist futures.

Dr. Vora comes to the University of California, Davis from the University of California, San Diego. There she was an associate professor in the department of ethnic studies. She was also affiliated with the critical gender studies and science studies programs. At the University of California, Davis, Dr. Vora will also serve as an associate professor in the gender, sexuality, and women’s studies program.

Dr. Vora is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where she majored in religion and music. She holds a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Hawaii and a Ph.D. from the history of consciousness program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
