Nine Women Who Are Taking on New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

Jean Vock is the new vice president for finance and business and chief financial officer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She was the assistant dean of finance and administration for the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. She had been on the staff there for 30 years.
Vock holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She earned a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Arizona.
Sheri Conklin was promoted to director of e-learning at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Since 2009, she has been an instructional designer in the Office of e-Learning.
Dr. Conklin holds a bachelor’s degree in art history and a master’s degree in instructional technology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She earned a doctorate in educational technology from Boise State University in Idaho.
Kimberly Weatherly was named assistant dean and director of the Center for Student Diversity at the College of William & Mary. She was the director of multicultural affairs at Columbia College in Chicago. She is the former director of student activities at Hampton University in Virginia.
Dr. Weatherly is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, where she majored in public relations and marketing. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from Hampton University and a doctorate in higher education from Benedictine University.
Kimberly M. Verstandig was appointed vice president for college advancement at Connecticut College in New London. She has been serving as vice president for advancement at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Verstandig holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Gina Toman was promoted to assistant to the senior vice chancellor and faculty human resources officer at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Since 2010, she has been the assistant dean in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service and director of the Division of Continuing Studies.
Dr. Toman is a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Omaha. She holds a master’s degree from Syracuse University in New York and a doctorate in higher education administration and leadership from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Donna Hoylman Peduto was appointed executive director of the West Virginia Public Education Collaborative at West Virginia University. She was director of operations for the West Virginia Board of Education.
Peduto holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in reading education from West Virginia University.
Althea Counts is the new director of TRIO program at the University of South Carolina. She has worked in the TRIO office since 2002, most recently as associate director. Counts is the first woman to serve as executive director.
Counts holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in student personnel services from the University of South Carolina.
Shannon Lindsey was named director of the University of Central Florida Art Gallery. She was the director of the McMaster Gallery at the University of South Carolina.
Lindsey is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of South Carolina.
Mindy Mahrer Miller was appointed director of annual giving at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She was director of alumni relations and annual giving at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.
Miller is a graduate of Georgia College and State University, where she majored in management. She holds a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
