Seven Women Faculty Members Who Have Been Appointed to New Positions

Julie Dash was appointed Distinguished Professor in the Arts at Spelman College in Atlanta. She will develop a new major in documentary filmmaking at the college. Her film Daughters of the Dust was a winner at the 1991 Sundance Film Festival.
Professor Dash is a graduate of the City College of New York. She earned a master of fine arts degree in motion picture and television production at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Kristy Kelly is a new assistant clinical professor in educational psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From 2009 to 2016, she taught at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational psychology, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ruth Kleinpell was appointed professor of nursing and assistant dean for clinical scholarship at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. She had been serving as a professor of nursing and director of the Center for Clinical Research and Scholarship at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Kleinpell holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Mariann Piano was named professor and senior associate dean for research at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the Nursing Collegiate Professor and chair of the department of biobehavioral health science at the University of Illinois College of Nursing in Chicago. She served on the faculty there for 27 years.
Dr. Piano is a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Deana A. Rohlinger, a professor of sociology at Florida State University, was named associate dean for faculty development and community engagement for the university’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. She joined the faculty at Florida State in 2004 and was promoted to full professor in 2015.
Professor Rohlinger is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where she majored in communication. She holds a master’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Irvine.
Carolyn Roberts was named assistant professor of African American studies at Yale University. She has been serving as a postdoctoral associate in history and the history of medicine at Yale.
Dr. Roberts is a graduate of Dartmouth College. She holds a master’s degree from Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, Massachusetts, and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Karen Davies is a new instructor in accounting at the Beacom School of Business at the University of South Dakota. She served for 20 years as the chief financial officer for the University of South Dakota Foundation.
Davies holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master of professional accountancy degree, both from the University of South Dakota.
