Women Leaders in College Sports to Honor Pat Griffin of the University of Massachusetts

Pat Griffin, professor emerita of education at the University of Massachusetts, was selected as the recipient of the Honor Award from Women Leaders in College Sports. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and dedication to the advancement of women in leadership, administration, and intercollegiate athletics. Professor Griffin will be honored on October 9 at the 2017 Women Leaders National Convention in Dallas.
Professor Griffin was a three-sport athlete at the University of Maryland and was a member of the U.S. national field hockey team. She served as the swimming coach at the University of Massachusetts from 1971 to 1976 and served on the faculty in the social justice education program. She retired from teaching in 2003.
Professor Griffin is the author of Strong Women, Deep Closets: Lesbians and Homophobia in Sport (Human Kinetics Publishers, 1998). She earned an educational doctorate at the University of Massachusetts in 1980.
