Sarah Whiting, the William Watkin Professor of Architecture and dean of the School of Architecture at Rice University in Houston, Texas, has been selected to receive a Women in Architecture Design Leadership Award from Architectural Record magazine. Dr. Whiting will be honored as Educator of the Year at a reception in New York City on October 25.
“I’m thrilled to receive this recognition for doing what I love to do here at the Rice School of Architecture,” Whiting said. “I hope I’m a role model, not just for our female students but for all of our students, defined not by gender, not by race, not by age, and not by ethnicity, but by a common ambition to design a better future.”
Professor Whiting joined the faculty at Rice in 2010. She is a founding partner of WW Architecture.
A graduate of Yale University, Professor Whiting earned a master of architecture degree from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in architectural history, theory, and criticism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
