MIT’s Susan Solomon to Be Honored With the Bakerian Medal

Susan Solomon, the Lee and Geraldine Martin Professor of Environmental Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been named as the recipient of the Bakerian Medal from the United Kingdom’s Royal Society. The medal was first awarded in 1775. Dr. Solomon will be honored and give the Bakerian Lecture in London in the spring of 2018.
Professor Solomon is being honored for “outstanding contributions in atmospheric science, in particular to the understanding of polar ozone depletion.”
Dr. Solomon joined the faculty at MIT in 2011. She holds a joint appointment in the department of chemistry. Before joining the MIT faculty, Professor Solomon had a long career at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Professor Solomon is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
