In Memoriam: Betty Jane Lloyd, 1922-2017

Betty Jane Lloyd, a longtime faculty member, higher education administrator, and advocate for women’s education died on July 21. She was 94 years old.
Lloyd lived in the same house in Munhall, Pennsylvania, for her entire life. She earned a bachelor’s degree at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, which is now Carnegie Mellon University. She went on to earn a master’s degree in business education at the University of Pittsburgh.
After teaching high school in Munhall, Lloyd joined the faculty at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1943. She later served as associate dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She retired from the university in 1983. She was the first woman to serve as president of the Faculty Club at Carnegie Mellon University and the first woman to be the faculty marshal at the university’s commencement ceremony.
