Women Continue to Hold a Large Lead in Higher Education Enrollments

The U.S. Department of Education recently released a new report that offers data on the 12-month unduplicated headcount of students enrolled at degree-granting institutions during the 2014-15 academic year. The figures show there were 15,562,317 women enrolled in higher education compared to 11,823,958 men. Thus, women made up 56.8 percent of all enrolled students.
The number of women enrolled in higher education was down by more than 288,000 from the figures in the same report issued a year ago. In the 2013-14 academic year, women were 56.9 percent of total enrollments.
In the 2014-15 academic year, there were 2,262,152 women enrolled in graduate programs at U.S. educational institutions. They made up 59.7 percent of all graduate school enrollments. The number of women enrolled in graduate school was up slightly from the previous year.
