In Memoriam: June Brown, 1927-2016

June BrownJune Brown, an associate professor emerita in the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, died last month in Culver City, California. She was 88 years old.

Dr. Brown joined the faculty at the university in 1969. She taught in the School of Social Work’s master’s and doctoral degree programs and served as chair of what is now the department of children, youth and families. In 1987, Dr. Brown was named assistant dean for academic affairs at the School of Social Work.

Dr. Brown was a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in Spanish. She earned a master of social work degree and a doctorate in social work at the University of Southern California.

Marilyn L. Flynn, the current dean of the School of Social work, stated that “June Brown was one of the school’s most important senior faculty members in the latter decades of the twentieth century. I want to recognize the strength of her presence and contribution to our students, our community, and this university.”
