A Milestone Appointment at Christ’s College of the University of Cambridge

janestapleton1Generally, WIAReport does not publicize news of women in higher education outside the United States. But a recent appointment in Great Britain deserves note because of the milestone nature of the news and also the fact that these is a connection to American higher education.

Jane Stapleton was named the 38th master of Christ’s College of Cambridge University. She is the first woman to lead Christ’s College since its founding in 1505. Charles Darwin served as master of Christ’s College.

Professor Stapleton has been serving as a professor at the Australian National University College of Law. She is the former Ernest E. Smith Professor of Law at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Stapleton holds three doctoral degrees: a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry, a Ph.D. in law, and a doctor of civil law from Oxford University.
