Maria Savoia Is the New Leader of the National Resident Matching Program

Maria C. Savoia, dean of medical education at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, was elected chair of the board of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The NRMP is a nonprofit organization that places medical students into medical residency programs nationwide. On the third Friday in March each year, the NRMP notifies graduating students at 155 medical schools around the country where they will be continuing their medical education as resident physicians.
Dr. Savoia has been dean of medical education at the University of California, San Diego since 2010. She has been associated with NRMP since 2008. “I’m so honored to assume the position of chair of NRMP, which provides such as fair, reliable and effective process of matching medical students with training programs that will transition them into the next generation of doctors,” Dr. Savoia said.
Dr Savoia is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts and Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
