In Memoriam: Catherine M. Havens, 1948-2015

Catherine M. Havens, professor of social work emerita at the University of Connecticut, died on March 27 at a hospital in Hartford. She was 67 years old.

Dr. Havens came to the University of Connecticut in 1974 as the first director of the Women’s Center. Two years later, she joined the faculty at the School of Social Work and remained on the faculty for 38 years until her retirement last year. She served as director of the master of social work degree program and was associate dean of the faculty for community organization.

Dr. Havens was a graduate of what is now the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut. She held a master of social work degree and a juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut.
