Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The School of Engineering and Computer Science at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, received a grant from Halliburton Inc. to create a “Ladies and Legos” program at the university. The program brings professional and academic women together to discuss their experiences in the classroom and the workplace.

Salem College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, received a grant from the Cobb Foundation that will provide primary funding for the renovation of space in the college’s science building for the construction of a psychology laboratory.

Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, received a $950,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for research on bacterial infections that are passed from mothers to their newborn children. The research will focus on pinpointing the genes that affect microbe density.
