The New Poet Laureate of the State of Wisconsin

Kimberly Blaeser, a professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been named poet laureate of the state of Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. She will serve a two-year term.
Professor Blaeser is the author of three collections of poetry including Apprenticed to Justice (Salt Publishing, 2007) and Absentee Indians and Other Poems (Michigan State University Press, 2002).
Dr. Blaesser is Anishinaabe, an enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, and grew up on the White Earth Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.
