Jane Lubchenco Presented With the World Academy of Sciences Medal

Jane Lubchenco, University Distinguished Professor in marine science at Oregon State University, received the World Academy of Sciences Medal at the organization’s annual meeting in Muscat, Oman. The organization has 1,100 members and promotes science in the developing world. Dr. Lubchenco is the former director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.
Professor Lubchenco was honored for her work in marine ecology and for her service as president of the International Council of Science.
Professor Lubchenco is a graduate of Colorado College and holds a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in marine ecology from Harvard University.
