The New Head of Women’s Studies at Yale University

Kathryn Lofton, a professor of religious studies and a professor of American studies at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, has been chosen as chair of the university’s program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Professor Lofton is a graduate of the University of Chicago. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Lofton is the author of Oprah: The Gospel of an Icon (University of California Press, 2011) and co-editor of Women’s Work: An Anthology of African-American Women’s Historical Writings from Antebellum America to the Harlem Renaissance (Oxford University Press, 2010).
