In Memoriam: Betty Holden Stike, 1918-2014

Betty Holden Stike, a founding member of the department of psychology and education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, died at her home in Wilmington on June 24. She was 95 years old.
Professor Stike was a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She earned a master’s degree in education at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Professor Stike taught in the North Carolina public school system for 24 years before joining the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She taught at the university for more than 21 years.
The department of psychology and education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington was founded in 1963. It has grown and become the Watson College of Education at the university. An education laboratory and a scholarship fund at the College of Education are named in Professor Stike’s honor.
