Emma Sepulveda of the University of Nevada Wins International Latino Book Award

Emma Sepulveda, a professor and director of the Latino Research Center at the University of Nevada Reno, won the International Latino Book Award from Latino Literacy Now. She was honored for her book Gringosincrasias: How to Survive in the U.S. and Understand Its Idiosyncrasy.

In 2012 ,Professor Sepulveda  received the International Latino Book Award in the Best History/Political Book category. She was honored for her book Setenta Dias de Noche (Seventy Days of Night), which tells the tale of 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground in 2010 and how their families coped with the crisis.

Born in Argentina and raised in Chile, Dr. Sepulveda came to the United States in 1974. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Nevada and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis.
