American-Trained Scholar Is the New Finance Minister of Romania

Ioana Petrescu was recently sworn in as finance minister for the nation of Romania. At the age of 34, she is the youngest member of the Romanian cabinet.
Dr. Petrescu is a summa cum laude graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she double majored in mathematics and economics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
After earning her doctorate, Petrescu served as a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. Before returning to Romania last year, she was an assistant professor in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland.
