University of Chicago Medicine Names Its Inaugural Deans for Faculty Affairs

The University of Chicago Medicine has appointed two women as the inaugural deans for faculty affairs. The two women will offer administrative support for faculty within the biological sciences division, identifying issues of concern to faculty members and working to solve any problems they may encounter.
Melina Hale will focus on faculty in the basic sciences. She is a professor in the department of organismal biology and anatomy. She is chair of the research resources oversight committee and is the spokesperson for the Committee of the Council of the University Senate. Dr. Hale holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Karen Kim will have primary responsibility for working with clinical faculty members. She is a professor in the department of medicine and is the director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Office of Community Engagement and Cancer Disparities. She also serves as chair of the department of medicine’s Women’s Committee. Dr. Kim earned her medical degree at Loyola University.
