Andrea Kalyn Selected to Lead the Oberlin Conservatory of Music

Andrea Kalyn was named dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio. Since 2005, she has been serving as associate dean and chief academic officer of the Oberlin Conservatory and served as interim dean since last July. Prior to joining the administration at Oberlin, Kalyn held teaching positions at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Salem College, Wake Forest University, the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Rochester. Dr. Kalyn is the 13th permanent chief administrator for the 149-year-old conservatory.

Dr. Kalyn earned diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Western Ontario. She holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.
